About Us
  The Karella Family

Chet Karella, the founder of Dangerous Decisions LLC. brings a wealth of experience to the development of all the Safety and Training programs and services we offer. The Karella Family roots run deep in Alaska; Chet was born in Fairbanks, Alaska.  Actually, his mother Rhodiann “Rhodi” Karella-Davidson (Winner of the 1987 Iditarod “Red Lantern” award) was flown in from McGrath where the family lived until moving to Anchorage in 1963 when his father Jerome “Pete” Karella left his job with Wein Air Alaska to join Sea-Land Transportation.  Chet’s decision to attend and graduate from California Maritime Academy with a USCG 3rd Mate’s Unlimited license and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology stems from his love of the ocean that was nurtured in his youth as a Boy Scout and Sea Cadet. Chet, his mother, two brothers and sister still live in Alaska and look forward to any opportunity to get together and spend some “quality” time fishing with their favorite guide and lifelong friend Joe Simpson of “Simpson Charters – Home of the Hog Slayers”.  Chet and his wonderful wife of 22 years Patty, have two beautiful daughters Sandra and Denise.

The transition from Marine Petroleum Operations to Safety was a natural progression of his passion for safety and training. Whether it was the having to endure years of attending regulatory training and thinking that there has to be a better way… or just his talent for being able to effectively relate and interact with his participants; Chet has incorporated his personality and philosophy of bringing a “Know Safety – No Accidents” attitude into all of Dangerous Decision’s programs and services.

Justin Karella
  Justin Karella

The inspiration for the Company name came from one of my cousin Justin’s carvings that I prominently display in my office. You can view his work at

Justin Karella is a product of the Last Frontier. Born in Alaska and raised on a homestead just Northeast of Fairbanks, Justin began at the tender age of nine, what has developed into a lifelong passion for him...Reproducing in wood, antler and ancient ivory the objects of everyday life which he sees around him. Justin's carving has been likened to the art of Norman Rockwell for its ability to tell a story and to that of western sculptor Frederic Remington for its accurate portrayal of natural figures in vigorous motion. Are these justifiable references? Look around the images of his work on his site, tour his studio at Cabin 31 in Pioneer Park in Fairbanks, Alaska and take a few minutes to really see the stories and scenes he presents.
